At least 103 Nigerians who were deported from Turkey over migration-related issues returned to the country on Friday evening.
Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Alhaji Tijani Ahmed, receives the returnees at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja.
Ahmed, who was represented at the forum by the commission’s Director of Migration Affairs, Ambassador Catherine Udida, said the commission expected 110 people to be deported but 103 were accepted, all men.
He said: “Some of them have been in the deportation camps for several months, and now that they are here, we hope to follow up on all the allegations that were collected in their profiling.

“We will check the profiling forms because some of them said their passports were confiscated.
We will follow up with the Turkish authorities because the passport still belongs to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
According to him, NCFRMI is a mandated institution responsible for all returning refugees regardless of their status.
“We also have programs to train them and then integrate them back into society,” he added.
