At least 12 inmates fled at the federal correctional center in Kotonkarfe, Kogi state, in early Monday.
Commissioner of State for Information and Communication, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, confirmed the news in a statement at Lokoja.
He described the incident as an unfavorable person and convincing people in the state that the government took steps to prevent recurrence.
Fanwo added that the state government would work with security institutions to uncover the situation around the incident.

He said: “Theory that prisoners escaped through the tower without causing structural damage to a serious concern.
“This calls for a thorough investigation to determine the right situation of the escape, arrest prisoners who escape, and identify the possibility of penyabot in the system.
“There is no reason panic. We encourage residents to carry out their daily activities as usual, knowing that the security of life and property remains our top priority.”
