1,238 Nigerian nurses in the UK face sanctions for exam fraud related to the Oyo Center

The British Maintenance and Midwifery Council (NMC) has placed 1,238 Nigerian nurses who are being investigated with 717 others who face disciplinary actions on accusation of exam fraud related to Ibadan -based examination centers, Oyo State.

According to a statement on Wednesday by NMC, the total number of Nigerian nurses being investigated and has been linked to the center known as the Yunik Test Center, now in 1955.

According to reports, the scandal emerged after NMC identified deviations in a Computer -Based Test (CBT), which is a basic requirement for foreign trained nurses looking for British registration.

It is said that the researchers consistently mark fears of the speed at which some candidates completed the exam, which led to the suspicion of fraud activities and as a result, several affected nurses had been revoked by the British headquarters and faced deportation.

Another report at the UK Nursing Times stated that some of the affected nurses had been removed from the professional register, while others filed an appeal for their case.

When breaking numbers, NMC says:

“48 professionals in the list reach their CBT in the time we believe is more likely not to show that they get their results cheating. 669 applicants who want to join the register are also included in this category.

“467 professionals at the register make their CBT canceled without accusation of fraud, while 771 applicants in the same situation have their tests canceled.”

NMC to solve problems, offers an opportunity for individuals affected to reclaim CBT for free through Pearson Vue.

“However, the council clarifies that passing the re -testing will not guarantee the recovery or automatic approval of the delayed application,” he said.

“Those who are found guilty of fraud will face a disciplinary hearing in front of an independent panel, which will determine whether they should remain in the register.

“Meanwhile, applicants whose CBT results are invalid must re -test the test before their application can be reconsidered.

“So far, 202 cases have been reviewed, produced 183 applications due to character problems. Only nine applications were approved, while six of the nine cases of appeal have been dismissed.

“Since March 2024, NMC has held 12 cheating entry hearing, which leads to the removal of 10 nurses from the register, while two are freed from errors.

“The council has convinced people affected that they work to resolve the case as quickly as possible and have provided support for those who struggle with the process,” the report added.
