14 people died after drinking liquor in India

At least 14 people have been confirmed dead and six others were hospitalized after consuming poisonous liquor last night in North India.

A senior police officer, Maninder Singh, told reporters on Tuesday that seven people had been arrested on the accusation that they supply poisonous liquor.

Singh said the suspects were suspected of supplying the liquor to five villages about 19 kilometers (12 miles) from the City of Amritsar in North Punjab.

According to him, the police had launched a hard action to destroy the network of fake liquor supply in the area after the incident.

Meanwhile, a senior government official in Amritsar, Sakshi Sawhney, said the local government had mobilized medical officers to the villages to examine people who drink contaminated liquor.

He added that the person who showed symptoms was being transferred to the hospital to ensure the number of deaths did not increase.
