17 people killed, one injured in mass shooting in South Africa

At least 17 people were killed in a mass shooting in a remote South African town on Friday night.

Police told journalists on Saturday that the attackers targeted two houses in the Eastern Cape town of Lusikisiki.

The victims, according to reports, were preparing to attend the funeral of a woman and her daughter who were murdered last year when the assailants struck.

13 people, including 12 women, died in one location and four others in a second location.

The other victim is in critical condition in hospital.

However, the cause of the deadly attack has not been ascertained.
