19 parties for field candidates in North Ibadan Sela – Inec

The Independent National Election Commission (Inec) said that on Wednesday 19 political parties would send candidates in the next month’s election at the northern federal constituency of Ibadan in the state of Oyo.

The commission revealed that 217,980 voters would take part in the election to elect new members of the House of Representatives in the electoral district.

Commissioner of the election of resident in the state of Oyo, Dr. Adeniran Tella, stated this at a meeting of stakeholders with political parties before the interrupted election scheduled for August 16.

Members who represent the northern federal constituency of Ibadan in the House of Representatives, Mr. Olaide Akinremi, died on July 10, 2024, which required the selection of interruptions.

Inec will conduct an election in 12 states throughout the country on August 16 to fill vacancies in the national assembly and state.

Tella said that the Federal Ibadan constituent consisted of 12 wards with 512 voting units, had 272,196 registered voters, but only 217,980 collected permanent voter cards.

“While others must also be accepted, including sensitive materials, before the election date.

“The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) which is expected to be used is currently being activated by the commission,” he said.

Rec, therefore, call for the commitment of all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful, credible and inclusive election process.

The Chairperson, the inter-party advisory council in the state of Oyo, Mr. Adegbenro Fagbemi, demanded that Inec to conduct a credible selection in the electoral district.

Representatives from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), all Progressive Congress (APC), Labor Party, People’s Party (APP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Zenith Labor Party (ZLP), among others, attending the meeting.
