More than 200 prisoners in Pakistan fled on Monday after they were allowed to leave their cells after a series of earthquake vibrations.
Provincial Law Minister, Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar, told reporters on Tuesday in Karachi that hundreds of prisoners were allowed to enter the prison yard for their vibrations.
“There is a panic here because of an earthquake vibration, and it is difficult to control the crowd up to 1,000 people.
“Jailbreak starts right before midnight on Monday and continues until the early hours of Tuesday,” said Lanjar.
The police said the prisoners grabbed weapons from the prison staff, who led to the shootout, and then forced to open the main gate.
Prison in the Malir Karachi District, Pakistani’s largest city, is located in a poor residential and industrial environment.
Local recordings also showed prisoners running through the area at night, several legs barefoot, chased by the police.
