2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers: Benin Republic captain Steve Mounie issues warning to Super Eagles

Benin Republic striker Steve Mounie has expressed confidence ahead of his side’s upcoming match against Nigeria.

The Cheetahs will take on three-time champions Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo as they begin their qualifying campaign for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Mounie, speaking during a press conference on Friday, said the team’s resolve is to secure a positive result against the Nigerian side.

The Republic of Benin had already beaten Nigeria 2-1 in their last match in Abidjan, and the team will be hoping to repeat that performance.

“With the spirit we have in the team now, we will not give up. We will try to fight together on the pitch and that will be important tomorrow,” said Mounie.

“It doesn’t matter who scores or provides the assist, the most important thing tomorrow is to get a result.”

The eagerly awaited match will take place on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium as both teams aim for a good start to their quest for AFCON qualification.
