2026 World Cup classifiers: South Africa faces the deduction of points before organizing Super Eagles in September

A ray of hope that the Super Eagles could “win assistance” from the Board Hall of the African Football Confederation (CAF) in their search to get ahead of South Africa to choose the solitary ticket of the C group C of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying World Cup.

Sports247 gathered that this continues to the confirmation of Lesotho that his football officials have issued a formal protest against their neighbors for using an inΓ©lgible player (Teboho Mokoena) in the game last week that the South Africans won 2-0 at home.

Both teams are ready to collide again the seven day of the qualification series, with Bafana playing far, after which South Africa will be the host of Nigeria, but the hope of SA to use both games to consolidate their leadership of the group has been compromised by the protest against them for allegedly using an inelligible player.

This is a sequel to Checks de Lesotho, who revealed that Mokoena was reserved in the SA Opening Party in November 2023 against Benin Republic and then also in his fourth encounter against Zimbabwe, which should have discarded it from the victory of last week at home against its fully listed neighbors.

This period can now cost Bafana Bafana directly, since the 13 points that accumulated after six games, driven by the 2-0 victory on Tuesday to the Republic of Benin, could fall to 10 before the qualifiers resume in September, and Nigeria (whose 1-1 draw at home with Zimbabwe on Tuesday left them with seven points) will have to worry only for three points to take place.

The general secretary of the Lesothho Football Association (LFA), Mokhosi Mohapi expatted: “The question is: was a rule broken? In a affirmative case, we have the right to protest and obtain the points. We inform ourselves of the Mokoena reserves, and since then we have sent a formal investigation to CAF and FIFA.”

SPORTS247 also informs that this development could support the recent arguments sent by some soccer technocrats, including former secretary general of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ambassador Fanny Amun, who calculated that there will be no form of political gang among the partners of South Africa, Lesotho and Zimbabwe, to favor Bafana Bafana against the Super Eagles.

However, you can see if CAF leans towards Bafana Bafana with respect to the result of its checks and an eventual decision on Lesotho’s protest, as president of the continental organism, Patrice Motsepe is South African.
