The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction, Nafiu Bala Gombe, has announced that presidential candidates above the age of 55 are prohibited from contesting certain positions under his watch.
He expressed this in an interview on BBC Hausa, where he outlined a vision centered on generational change and greater youth participation in politics.
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is a party that belongs to all Nigerians. What we are doing now is ensuring that the party moves forward well.
“We have decided that we will give the young generation a real opportunity. The time has come for the young generation to take leadership in politics.

“If you are over 55, you will not compete for a position at ADC under our leadership.
“We want to bring in fresh blood, new ideas and energy from the young generation. The future of Nigeria depends on the young generation.
“The old ways are not working well for this country. We need to open the doors wide for the younger generation to fully participate as candidates, leaders and decision makers,” he said.
His position effectively disqualified known candidates such as Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Kwankwaso and others who exceeded the age limit.
