2027: El-Rufai warns Tinubu to be ‘Paul Biya’ Nigeria without United’s opposition

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has warned that the President of the Tinubu soccer will try to expand his government outside the constitutional boundary if Nigeria fails to unite against him in the 2027 general election.

El-Rufai issued a warning on Saturday in Kaduna when he received a former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, at his home in the Capital of the State.

The visit followed the alleged attack by a thug suspect “during the inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state.

According to the former governor, the signs of authoritarianism emerged in the Tinubu government, which he equated with the early years of leaders who had long been serving Cameroon, Paul Biya.

He said: “We face a crime as much as as much proportion in this country’s history that if we do not gather and end this Tinubu administration in 2027, Tinubu will try to be our Paul Biya. All signs are there; this is how Paul Biya began,” El-Rufai said.

He criticized the federal government for damaging democratic values and centralization forces, describing his behavior as a betrayal of the ideals of the pro-democracy that had long been held. “In fact, it is embarrassing. For people to behave like this, it means that for years to say that we are for democracy and federalism is to be used. This government is trying to focus everything instead of delegating power,” he added.

El-Rufai urged Atiku, who he described as an experienced opposition and experienced democratic figure, to provide leadership in uniting political forces against the decisions of all the progressive congress (APC). He argues that even the previous administration under Olusegun Obasanjo, Muhammadu Buhari, and military leaders have shown greater tolerance of differences of opinion than the current government.

“Nigerians have decided that APC must be chosen,” he said. “With your leadership, patience, and diplomatic skills in uniting people, I’m sure we will reach the promised land.”
