2027: Kaduna Gov, Sani, said the coalition was not a threat to Tinubu or APC

Uba Sani Governor from Kaduna State, on Friday, rejects concerns that the formation of the new opposition coalition threatens the leadership of the President of the Ball Tinubu or the Congress of All Progressive (APC) in power.

Speaking of today’s politics, a program on television channels, the governor stressed that President Tinubu remained unwilling and firmly controlled the political landscape.

“I can tell you today, and Mark today, Asiwaju has no threat,” said Sani, referring to the national opposition coalition group chaired by former Senate President David Mark. “This coalition does not recommend problems for APC.”

The Governor of Kaduna criticized the political posture of several coalition supporters, showing that they did not have a historical context and a true understanding of Nigeria’s democratic struggle. “Most people talk today, where are they when we are in a trench that struggles for democracy, justice, and the rule of law?” He asked, remembering his time as a pro-democracy activist under the late Head of Gani Fawehinmi.

Sani tells the early days of the transition of Nigerian democracy, when activists reject the shallow political process that fails to reflect the values โ€‹โ€‹of real democracy. He noted that he and others fought in legal battles to challenge the Independent National Election Commission (Inec) and encourage a wider multi-party political space. “That’s why when people today talk about registration rejection, I just ask: where are they?” he said.

Sani urged the hearts of those who claimed to represent change, warning that the Nigerians were too smart to be swung by rhetoric without evidence of past credibility. “When you tell Nigerians, ‘I can change a lot of things,’ They will ask, ‘What are you doing five years ago? Are you not powerful?”

Responding to questions about the potential political reactions in Kaduna and North, Sani expressed trust in the performance of her government. “I’m not afraid of opposition,” he said. “We focus on handling poverty and creating inclusive policies.”

He quoted poverty statistics from 2023 which showed that 17 of the 23 regional government areas in Kaduna had a poverty rate of above 70 percent. In response, his government signed an executive order about financial inclusion and brought more than 2.5 million vulnerable and less served 2.5 million in rural areas – into the formal financial system.
