Prominent leaders from northern Nigeria have gathered for a landmark summit aimed at reviving the region’s political and economic influence.
The meeting, announced on Tuesday in Abuja by the League of Northern Democrats (LND), will take place in Kaduna and focus on addressing the political trajectory, economic growth and security challenges in the region.
According to Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, Pro-Chairman of the LND and former governor of Kano State, the summit aims to evaluate the challenges facing North Korea, particularly security issues, and produce a comprehensive document outlining solutions to address these issues.
Shekarau stressed that the initiative is apolitical and not focused on the 2027 elections, but rather a long-term effort to produce a guiding document for leaders seeking to gain votes in the region. The summit aims to bring together leaders, thinkers and key figures to chart a new course for northern Nigeria.

He said, “The LND decided to organize the Northern Nigeria Political Summit, which will be held in Kaduna.
“The summit will be a platform to discuss the future of politics, economic development, and security challenges in the region. It will bring together leaders, thinkers, and key figures to chart a new course for North Korea.
“We came together to analyze and review the problems plaguing the northern region of Nigeria. We said that we need to start a general reorientation of society, to enlighten the people on what their basic challenges and basic needs are.
“But this document is apolitical. It doesn’t talk about any person or political party, and it certainly doesn’t talk about 2027. This is a timeless issue. We wanted to produce a document that wasn’t about a one-year, two-year, or 10-year issue.
“The main idea is to produce a document that we can use to convince anyone who wants our vote that this is the aspiration of our people and we want you to convince us that this will be part of your guiding principles.”
The LND, comprising former governors, senators and prominent figures from the region, expressed concern about the progress in the North and decided to hold a summit to address the issue. The event promises to be a pivotal moment for the region as it seeks to regain its political and economic power.
