2027: LP rejects the coalition, set the committee to examine OTTI, others

The Labor Party on Friday distances itself from any coalition or alliance before the 2027 General Election.

This is part of the 12 -point resolution adopted at the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.

LP National Chairperson, Julius Abure, who reads the communicate, stated that the party would not participate in any coalition regulation for 2027.

The Supreme Court on April 4 removed Abure as the Chairperson of the National LP.

In a unanimous decision, the panel of five members from the High Court put aside the Decree of the Appeals Court in Abuja, who had recognized Abure as the Chair of the National Party.

The panel believes that the appeal court does not have jurisdiction to make such declarations, given that the substance of the case concerns the internal leadership of the party.

However, the controversy had followed the decision with the LP faction led by Lamidi whatever and several others, including the former Minister of Finance, Namadi Usman, celebrated the decision of the Supreme Court while members of the National Work Committee (NEC) insisted that Abure remained the party leader.

In communication, the party declared skepticism about the ongoing coalition talks in the political space, on the grounds that those who pioneered such initiatives did not have the capacity and character to build a decent alliance.

Abure said: “The labor party is not and will not be part of any coalition towards the 2027 general election.

“On the contrary, we will focus on rebuilding, repositioning, re -strategy, reconciliation, and expanding our membership base to win the 2027 election.

He said NEC also reviewed what was described as an anti-party activity by the Governor of the State of Abia, Alex Otti, and several other members.

According to him, the committee as a result forms a disciplined committee to investigate and make recommendations within two weeks.

Abure said the decision followed Otti’s public statement on national television, which according to him was underestimated LP.

The Disciplinary Committee was led by Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, with Alhaji Umar Farouk as Secretary.

Other committee members are – Mr. Khaninde Edun, Mrs. Dudu Manuga, and Mr. Callistus Ihejiagwa.
