The Labor Party has set a presidential primary for May 23, 2026 as part of its preparations for the 2027 general election.

The NEC also ratified the activities of the party’s national leadership under the leadership of Senators Nenadi Usman and Darlington Nwochocha, including the conduct of the neighborhood, local government and state conventions scheduled for March 26, 28 and 31, as well as the national convention set for April 11, 2026.

During the meeting, the council reviewed recent developments within the party, including the reported invasion of the national secretariat by thugs allegedly supported by “rogue elements”.

Following the recommendations of the Peace, Reconciliation and Discipline Committee chaired by Salisu Mohammed, the NEC approved the suspension of several members for alleged acts of indiscipline, anti-party activities and involvement in secretariat unrest.

The party has also supported the continued expansion of its membership register through a hybrid system that combines digital registration with manual enrollment in rural areas. The initiative, he said, aims to improve transparency, efficiency and participation in line with the Electoral Law 2026.

Furthermore, the NEC has decided to fill vacancies within the party structures through interim appointments to ensure administrative continuity pending the holding of new congresses.

The council urged members to use internal conflict resolution mechanisms to address grievances and promote unity within the party.
