Former Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has officially declared his intention to oppose the 2027 presidential election on the African Democratic Congress platform (ADC), insisting that he would not move aside to other candidates.
Speaking with journalists in Kano after a meeting with a trader coalition, Amaechi swear that the primary ADC must remain competitive and transparent, emphasizing that he is determined to remain in the race.
“I will fight for President ADC President, and with God’s grace, I hope to win so that I can face Tinubu in 2027,” Amaechi told BBC Hausa Service.
“I don’t resign to anyone. Let people decide who they want to lead,” he said.
Amaechi, who served as Minister of Transportation between 2015 and 2022, described the contest in ADC as a healthy internal democratic test, noted that each candidate had the right to compete for party tickets.
Changing his focus to the current government, Amaechi criticized the government of the Tinubu Bola President, said the Nigerians were disappointed with their policies.

“Whether the government wants to make a credible selection or not, one thing that is exactly runs out. Nigeria is tired because no one is happy under Tinubu, even in the river or across the southern. He tries to frame it as a northern-south contest, but the truth is that people suffer everywhere,” he said.
He further blamed the style of governance and appointment of Tinubu. “Even among Yoruba, many feel excluded. He only gave awards to a few people who were close to him, while the majority remained ignored,” Amaechi’s allegation.
In the possibility of a Zoning of President ADC ticket, the former minister said the decision only existed in the party. “That is a party’s decision. I am only a member. Whatever the party decided, I will obey it. But as far as I know, I am in a race,” he said.
Amaechi also positioned himself as one of the most ready candidates for the presidency. “If you see all those who aspire to high, including Tinubu, say honestly, who is better prepared than me? I came from the south, and we do not conflict with southeast, southwest, or even north. My nomination offers unity,” he said.
Overcoming the suggestion that his political influence in Rivers has declined due to the dominance of his old rival, the current FCT Minister, Nyechi, Amaechi rejected the claim.
“Recently, when I visited Rivers to inaugurate ADC, the number of voters was very large from the airport to the venue, and no one paid Kobo for that mobo. It should tell you something about where people stand,” he said.
