2027 Will Be Nigerians vs. APC, Not Only Another Party Duel – Gov Makinde

The Governor of the State of Oyo, Seyi Makinde, has stated that the 2027 presidential election will not only be a contest between the two Nigerian dominant political parties, all the progressive congress (APC) and the Democratic Party (PDP), but the referendum between Nigeria and APC is in power.

Speaking in television politics Channels today on Tuesday night, Makinde expressed criticism that burned from the Federal government led by APC, quoting misinter economic and increasing insecurity as the main problem that would determine the next general election.

“The 2027 election will not be a PDP versus APC; it will be a Nigerian versus APC. Mark my words about that,” the Governor stressed, placing the responsibility of the failure of governance right in the shoulder of the administration of President Tinubu.

Makinde, a key figure in the opposition of the PDP and Governor of G5 who is now divided, regretted that the wrong strategic step in his party had contributed to his losses in the 2023 general election.

“In building the last poll, the President’s ticket went northeast, the national chairman came from North Central, and the campaign DG came from northwest. So, how do you sell that arrangement throughout the country?” He asked rhetorically.

Makinde believes that more inclusive tickets will strengthen the opportunity for PDP to APC. He remembered urged the party leaders to consider the Governor of Rivers State at the time, Nyesom Wike, as a couple who was running Atiku Abubakar to create what he described as “Ticket Unity.”

“I told the Governor of Findiri from the state of Adamawa, ‘Let’s get a wike. Appeal to him, make a union ticket.’ But the people around our candidates refused.

The Governor stated that a deep regret that internal divisions and power games in PDP damaged what could be a more resilient challenge for APC in 2023. “That was the wound that was caused by itself,” he said. “There will be no G5 if the advice has been considered.”

Makinde also reminded viewers that similar strategic errors were detrimental to the Presidential PDP in 2015, when leading party leaders walked out of the national convention at Eagle Square. “We know the people behind him. The same thing happened again in 2023. It is time to reflect on and acknowledge that this party remains the hope of ordinary people,” he concluded.
