A fatal road accident caused the life of at least 21 athletes and officials of the State of Kano who had participated in the national sports festival recently concluded in the state of Ogun.

The accident occurred on Saturday morning around 8 in the morning at the Bridge of Daka Tsalle in the area of ​​the local government of Garun Malam in the state of Kano.

According to the witnesses, the bus that transported the victims was a coat after hitting a hole, causing immediate victims and multiple injuries.

An official of the trip, Ado Salisu, confirmed that 19 people died on the spot, while two others died following the Kura General Hospital.

He added that more than 10 passengers suffered serious injuries and were receiving medical care.

Among the deceased there is Galadima Ibrahim, the spokesman for the Kano State Sports Council.

Salisu noticed that agreements were taken to return the bodies to their families.

“The scene was devastating. We lost some of our best athletes and dedicated officials,” said Salisu.

Reports indicate that the accident has affected only one of the 31 buses that transport the Kano delegation from the State of Ogun.

The remaining 30 buses arrived safely in Kano after leaving Ogun Thursday evening.

The tragic accident threw the sports community of Kano in mourning, with many who asked for urgent attention to road safety and infrastructures to prevent future events.
