21 Killed, 10 Missing in Niger Floods

At least 21 people have been confirmed dead and 10 others were missing in flash floods that were destroyed in the Mokwa regional government in the state of Niger.

Acting Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Ibrahim Hussaini, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday in Minna.

He said the Tiffin Maza and Anguwan Hausawa community in Mokwa City was influenced by floods, which followed heavy rainfall which began on Wednesday night in the area.

Hussaini said: “In response, NSEMA, in collaboration with the Authority of the Mokwa Regional Government, Local Diver, and Bold Volunteers, launched a search and rescue operation immediately to find victims and restore the body.

“So far, 21 bodies have been found, while searching and rescue efforts are ongoing to find more than 10 people are still missing.”
