24 hours after Wike swores to fight, FCTA Seals PDP Secretariat through unpaid leases

Federal Capital Region Administration Officer (FCTA) on Monday sealed Wadata Plaza, the National Secretariat of the Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja for the accumulation of unpaid land rent and leases.

The action, said FCTA, is part of a broader law enforcement step that targets thousands of property owners who failed to meet financial obligations to FCTA for several years.

This development will come around 24 hours after the Federal Capital Minister (FCT), Nyesese Wike stated its withdrawal from all agreements previously achieved aimed at completing the ongoing crisis in the PDP, promised to continue the struggle until justice was achieved.

In a statement that was signed personally on Sunday entitled “PDP Crisis: My position,” Wike expressed concern over what he described as a violation of the resolution agreed consistently, especially blaming the Governor of the State Oyo, Seyi Makinde, for triggering internal party problems.

Although the leading member of the PDP opposition, Wike serves under the government’s decision of all the progressive congress (APC).

The sealing of iconic buildings, which is widely recognized as the operational basis of Nigeria’s main opposition party, triggered protests and confusion between party members and staff.

Eyewitnesses reported a brief deadlock between FCTA officials and PDP staff, who led to the temporary opening of the place to allow residents to take vehicles and private goods.

The building was then lowered back under official supervision.

The action followed the announcement last week by FCTA to reclaim 4,794 properties in all major districts of the Capital City, including Asokoro, Maitama, Wuse, Garki, Guzape, and the central area.

According to officials, several affected properties do not have land rent for up to 43 years.

At the Friday Press Briefing, Senior FCTA officials, including the Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze; Director of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima; and Senior Minister’s Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, stated that law enforcement will begin on Monday without regard to the status or ownership of the property involved.

“Ownership of 4,794 property revoked has been returned to FCTA. Starting Monday, the government will begin to use their ownership rights. This will be done strictly in accordance with the existing law and without exception,” Galadima said.

He added that the affected building would be sealed and his access was limited to waiting for further decisions from the administration of the use or re -assignment in the future.

Responding to the concern that some of the affected property owners have been looking for legal assistance, Nwankwoeze clarified that there was no current court order to hold FCTA from upholding the revocation.

“We act in the law ambitious,” he said.

The replacement came from the announcement of March 18 which identified 8,375 land titles in arrears, of which 4,794 was officially revoked.

Those affected are given a 21 day window to complete their debts or lose risk.

“We are currently compiling compliance and non-compliance records. After this process is completed, the government will take the steps needed based on the findings,” Nwankwoeze said.

This enforcement is part of a broader effort by FCTA to clean up land administration and increase the revenue generated internally.

But for PDP, whose national secretariat is now under the key and official stamp, the step presents a logistics and political blow in the midst of a developing conversation about the preparedness of the opposition for the 2027 general election.

However, there has been no official statement issued by the PDP leadership regarding development.
