The President of the Tinubu Bola has given the National Award from the Commander of the Order Niger (CON) to four former ogoni leaders.
The President announced this on Wednesday when he received a report on the Ogyi Consultation Committee at the President’s Villa, Abuja.
The quartet is – Albert Bady, Edward Kobani, Theophilus Orage, and Samuel Orage.
The people, known as “Ogoni Four,” reportedly held a meeting in the Giokoo community in the Gokana Regional Government in the State of Rivers when they were arrested by hordes and were killed horribly in 1995.
The president of the movement for the survival of the Ogyi people at that time, Ken Saro-Wiwa, and eight were accused of governing the murder by the late General Sani Abacha and were arrested, tried, and sentenced to death by hanging.
They were executed on November 10, 1995.
In his words at the meeting, President Tinubu urged the Ogoniland people to embrace reconciliation and unity after several decades of divisions.
He convinced the leaders and Ogoniland people that his government would support their parade towards peace, environmental improvement, and economic revival.

The President remembered that the late government of the former President of Muhammadu Buhari, in 2022, handed over Ogoni’s Ogoni Oil Field operators to the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its joint venture partner, said the government would respect the decision.
He directed the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu thousand, to immediately begin the involvement between Ogyi people, NNPCL, partners, and all relevant stakeholders to complete modality to restart the operation.
Tinubu said: “Hopefully the memories of ‘Ogoni Four’ continue to inspire unity, courage, and purpose between us. I urge the ogoni people throughout the class, community, and generation to close the ranks, place this dark chapter behind us, and move forward as a united community with one vote.
“I was encouraged by an extraordinary consensus from the Ogoni community to welcome the start of oil production.
“The government will mobilize every resource to support your people in this parade towards joint prosperity.”
