38 injured in Calabar gas explosion

At least 38 people suffered burns of varying degrees due to a gas explosion in Calabar, Cross River, on Saturday.

Eitokpah said the victims had been taken to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.

He identified a gas leak as the cause of the explosion that occurred in Edibe Edibe, a densely populated area in Calabar South Local Government Area of ​​the state.

The spokesman said the explosion occurred at around 10:00 a.m. when petrol station attendants attempted to transfer gas from a storage tank to a service tank.

“All efforts to secure the storage tap were unsuccessful. The leak happened quickly, there was no time to warn residents.

“The area caught fire and caused significant property damage, the value of which cannot be calculated at this time,” Eitokpah said.
