At least four people were killed and several others injured in a shootout near a mosque in Oman on Tuesday.
The attack took place early in the morning in Wadi al-Kabir, a district east of the capital, Muscat, as Shiite Muslims were performing religious rituals.
Police said in a statement on the X platform that security forces took necessary measures to calm the situation.
The Pakistani Embassy in Oman confirmed that two of its citizens were among the dead.

Oman, located on the Arabian Peninsula, is considered one of the safest countries in the Arab world and is popular with foreign tourists.
In a video showing the incident, dozens of people are seen fleeing the Imam Ali Mosque as repeated gunshots are heard.
It remains unclear whether one or more gunmen opened fire.
