40-year-old woman sets herself on fire after divorce

A 40-year-old woman in Jigawa State has set herself on fire after being divorced by her husband, resulting in her death.

The incident occurred in Garin Mallam Village, Guri Local Government Area, and was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu.

According to Shiisu, β€œOn Thursday, at around 7:40 a.m., the command received heartbreaking and distressing news of an incident from Guri, stating that a 40-year-old woman in Garin Mallam village doused herself with petrol, set herself on fire, and her body was burnt beyond recognition.”

Police investigations revealed that the deceased had been suffering from depression since her divorce a few months earlier.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Ahmadu Abdullahi, advised the public to leave their affairs to Allah SWT and seek advice from elders on delicate matters to avoid such incidents.

β€œOfficers took the charred body to the hospital and then handed it over to the family for burial,” Shiisu said. β€œInitial investigations revealed that the deceased had been depressed for several months after divorcing her husband.”
