500 teachers attend refresher workshop in Margibi

Teachers in Margibi County District#5 benefited from a weeklong refresher workshop ahead of the reopening of schools in this area shortly.

Margibi, Liberia, August 29, 2024 – About five hundred teachers from schools in District# 5, Margibi County, are completing a week-long refresher workshop on Friday, August 30, 2024, organized by Representative Clarence G. Gahr through the district education council.

The exercise, which started on Monday, August 26, with a parade from the Salala Rubber Corporation’s main factory to the Weala Public School, was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

The Chairman of the District Education Council, Cyrus Johnny, told reporters that the teachers came from several clusters in the district, including Weala, Konola, Yarnwullie, Gibi, and Baypolue, each cluster covering specific regions of the district.

He said the teachers teach at different levels, from nursery to senior high, in all parts of the district, and they have been taught by facilitators from the Ministry of Education.

According to Mr. Johnny, the refresher training, which ends on Friday, August 30, 2024, includes lessons on lesson planning, testing and evaluation, hygiene, and teaching methodology.

The Administrative Assistant to Rep. Clarence G. Gahr, Amara F. Mammy, explained that the lawmaker, as part of his efforts to support education in the district, disbursed about 1.5 million Liberian Dollars to schools in his district as fees for students.

Mr. Mammy disclosed that his boss, who has built schools and given financial aid and other things to bolster education in the district, will officially launch the scholarship program and certificate and empower teachers at the end of the training. Editing by Jonathan Browne
