Former Italian football captain Fabio Cannavaro has confirmed that he has turned down an offer to coach the Nigeria national team.
Cannavaro, who had been linked to the position, revealed that talks with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had not progressed.
The NFF had also announced German coach Bruno Labbadia as a possible candidate, but later distanced himself from the position.

Bruno Labbadia also coached VfB Stuttgart.

Cannavaro explained his decision by saying: “I had offers from Nigeria [national team] “And in Iranian clubs, but for Serie A and European clubs I want to wait until December. After that, I might start travelling again.”
The Super Eagles are still without a permanent coach, but Austin Eguavoen has been appointed on an interim basis.
Eguavoen will oversee the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.
