Fubara dismisses local council chairman in Rivers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has suspended the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Akuku-Toru local government area of ​​the state, Otonye Briggs.

The Governor’s Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.

He said the chairman’s suspension was effective immediately.

However, no reason was given for Briggs’ suspension.

The governor inaugurated the implementing committees for the 23 LGAs in June.

This follows the end of the three-year term of elected council officials in the state.

The statement read: “The Governor has ordered His Excellency Bitebobo Amiee to immediately take over the position of chairman.

“Mr Briggs is hereby ordered to surrender all council property in his possession to the (new) Interim Committee Chairman.”
