Social Media Monetization: 7 hacks to maximize content creation in Nigeria

Social media has revolutionized the way people interact, share ideas, and even run businesses. With more than five billion users worldwide, platforms like Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook have created a vast marketplace where content creators can reach a wide audience.

Beyond likes, shares, and comments, social media has also become a fast-growing monetization hub, and savvy content creators are leveraging their digital influence.

In Nigeria, where internet penetration continues to increase, social media has become an empowering tool, allowing creators to not only entertain but also educate and influence millions of people. From comedians to beauty experts, from technology reviewers to fitness enthusiasts, content creators continue to make waves.

However, turning content into cash isn’t always easy. In an interview with top officials of Nigeria’s leading social media management company, GSMNS Global, CEO Ijaola Samuel, and COO Christian Bassey shared some tips to help content creators maximize their content to generate revenue. The hack is detailed:

1. Consistency is key

Content creation is not a one-time effort. Successful content creators understand the importance of regular updates. “If you stay quiet, your income stream will also increase,” explains Ijaola. “Consistency keeps your audience engaged and attracts brands that want reliable content creators to collaborate with.”

2. Engage with your audience

Bassey emphasizes that engagement is more than just posting content. It’s about building community. “Engagement is currency,” Bassey said. “The more engaged you are, the more likely your audience is to stick around, share your content, and ultimately, help you grow your influence.”

3. Utilize various platforms

While some content creators thrive on Facebook, others thrive on YouTube or TikTok. Diversifying your presence ensures you reach different demographics and increases monetization opportunities. “The more creators understand how to leverage their platforms, the greater the financial opportunities they will gain,” said Ijaola.

4. Create valuable content

Creating fun and engaging content is important, but providing value can set you apart. Whether it’s educational, motivational, or solution-based content, offering something of value will build a loyal audience. Bassey notes, “Many creators focus on monetization from day one, which can be a problem because they prioritize views over quality. We are trying to shift their focus towards creating valuable content first, and the money will follow.”

5. Consider content creation as a career

Not everything can work as a side gig. While content creation may have started as a hobby for many, today, it is a full-fledged career path. Avoid frustration when things don’t go well from the start. “It’s not just about going viral,” explains Ijaola. “It’s about building a sustainable, consistent brand and finding the right strategy to get the most out of your content.”

6. Involve social media management professionals

The open monetization policy recently announced by Meta in Nigeria has attracted many Facebook users to create content. But cashing in is not as easy as many people hope. There is a need to engage Content Creation Service Providers (CSPs) and Multichannel Networks (MCNs) like GSMNS Global with access to certain tools that can help your pages perform optimally.

7. Stay updated with platform changes

Social media platforms continually update their algorithms and monetization policies. What worked last year may not work this year. “Continue to stay on top of platform updates,” advises Bassey. “Facebook, TikTok and YouTube are constantly changing their monetization rules. You need to adapt quickly to maximize your earnings.” Creators who are proactive and adapt their strategies to suit new trends or policies will certainly stay at the forefront.
