The management of the Admiralty University of Nigeria defended the recent appointment of Prof. Christopher Ogbogbo, who came second in the selection process as a substantial deputy chancellor of the institution.

He said he was in line with his rules and his procedure.

This was contained in a declaration issued by the Chancellor and Secretary of the Council of Adun, the retired commodoro Isaac Mankilik.

The Nigeria news agency in a Wednesday report mentioned Mankilik for saying that the clarifications had become necessary following the one that described as “a wave of online and misleading publications online and misleading”.

He said that the publications have been orchestrated by acquired interests that try to sow discord and to put an impediment as a clogging for the progress of the progress of Aduns.

According to Mankilik, the appointment of Ogbogbo had been officially communicated by the Chancellor and the Secretary to the Council during the Council meeting held on 26 and 28 February.

The Chancellor said that the Council’s decision was taken in close adherence to the portions of the AMMERAGNEGE University of Nigeria Establishment Act 2022 – First program 4 (1) (H) (2) and 38.

He said the Board selected Prof. Ogbogbo by the three candidates recommended by the joint commission, as imposed by section 4 (1) subsections 5 and 6 of the ADUN 2022 law.

According to him, “the law does not require the council to select the candidate with the highest score by the recommended candidates”.

Mankilik said: “The general public[sic] It is required to note that the final process in choosing a deputy chancellor is for selection and not based on the brands assigned by the joint selection commission.

“To avoid doubt, what is important is that the candidate to be selected must be one of the three recommended by the joint selection commission.

“The last day of the Council meeting of February 28, the deputy chancellor, the CEO MM Abdullahi, a member of the Council, was appointed interim president due to the absence of the president.”

The chancellor said that the Minister of Education, dr. Olatunji Alausa, had approved the declassification of the Council report from the second extraordinary meeting of the Council for the release to the public general [sic].

According to him, “it is essential to note that the final report was discussed, ratified and in fact adopted by the Chamber before it was signed by 13 members of the Council out of 15”.

“The complete report of the second extraordinary meeting of the Council, outlining the procedure and the decision, is consequently attached to this version,” he added.
