The police continue the issuance of a colored glass permit to curb harassment, increase safety

The Nigerian police have announced the start of the re -issuance of a national colored glass permit, in response to the appearance of public protests over police harassment related to the use of colored windows that are installed by the factory.

The decision, made in the instructions of the Police Inspector General, Kayode Egbetokun, was revealed on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Troop Community Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi. The new permit process, now fully digital, aims to provide a transparent, safe, and responsible system for regulating the use of colored windows throughout the country.

“It’s been too long, drivers with colored windows installed by the factory have experienced non -supervision and harassment that is not properly,” said Adejobi. “This step is about restoring order, ensuring proper documentation, and eliminating harassment on both sides of the law.”

The digital platform, can be accessed through https://possap.gov.ng, allows Nigerians to apply for a lean process that includes identity verification through the National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Numbers (TIN), as well as biometric capture and background checks.

“Unfortunately, polluted windows are a tool for criminals involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, and other forms of organized crime,” explained Adejobi. “Lack of visibility presents operational challenges for law enforcement and threaten public safety.”

The newly reactivated system displays permits issued digitally embedded with the QR code, which can be verified instantly by the officer. Schedule processing has been reduced to 72 hours to ensure efficiency. The 30 -day compliance window, starting May 1, 2025, has been approved to give the vehicle owner time to register.

After the grace period, the enforcement will begin seriously. However, Adejobi issued a stern warning to police officers who might try to exploit the system for personal gain.

“Officers who find residents who harass or blackmail with a guise to uphold the permit policy will face a disciplinary acts. We will not tolerate violations in our ranks,” he said.

For motorists such as Binta Adamu, a civil servant based in Gwarinpa who has a factory -colored SUV, the announcement came as a welcomed assistance. “I had been stopped and asked many times – even when I tried to explain, they only waved,” he said. “This gives us a way to protect ourselves legally.”

Inspector General reiterated the commitment of troops to the police model based on people and which were moved technology. He urged the community to embrace this initiative, noting that it forms a part of a broader strategy to strengthen national security while rebuilding the trust between citizens and law enforcers.

“This is more than just a permit – this is a step towards a respectful modern police, and a safer community,” the statement concluded.
