Will the LP divided house be in view of 2027?

The Labor Party (LP), which surprised many in the last general elections and brought so much hope to a third force practicable to the Nigerians, has become notoriously unstable; No thanks to Power Landle by his gladiators.

However, LP is not only on this trajectory; There is almost no great political party without its internal ripping and bickering, whether it is the party in power or to the opposition parties.

The All Progressives Congress sentence (APC), the main Democratic Party of the opposition peoples (PDP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), The ALL PROGRESSIVES GRANDLYCE (APGA), among others, are all involved with a tango or the other.

Political analysts, however, are concerned that the persistent and in -depth internal crisis of LP can consume it.

The crisis began as the battle for the ownership of the party; Then he ended in a strong leadership fight that leads to accusations of financial improper.

Consequently, there have been infinite disputes, suspension of national and state stalwarts and pickets of the national headquarters of the party in Abuja by the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

There is also the controversy on the National Party Convention, in which its National President Factrale, Julius Abure and the majority of members of the National Working Committee (NWC) were re -elected.

The party today seems to be torn between two fields that fight to have control.

On the one hand there are the bearer of the presidential flag of 2023, Peter Obi, and the only elected governor of the party, dr. Alex Otti di Abia, who opposes the NWC led by Abure.

The duo, with some other party leaders, held a meeting of the parties interested in Umuaia, Abia, on September 4, 2024 and appointed Senator Nenadi Usman as president of a custodian committee of 29 members to organize another convention to elect new leaders.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INC), united by Usman and two, has filed a cause against the NWC led by Abure who questioned his right to lead the party.

However, two recurring courts sitting in Abuja pronounced in favor of the NWC led by Abure, stating that the party leadership issues were exclusively the responsibility of the party.

In addition, the Court of Appeal affirmed the NWC led by Abure as legitimate party leaders.

Recently, in a dramatic turning point of events, the Supreme Court eliminated the ruling of the applicant court which affirmed abure as national president for the lack of jurisdiction.

The apical court also added that the courts did not have the right to intervene in the party leadership affairs.

Due to this sentence, both fields of Obi and Abure claimed the victory over the verdict of the apical court; Both interpret the judgment to adapt to their cause.

While Obi and Otti asked for a meeting of the interested parties, Abure organized a meeting of all the statutory weapons of the party attended by members of the NWC.

National party officials, State Presidents and Secretaries, interested parties of the party and other co -opted members of the National Executive Committee, as required by Article 13th of the Constitution of the Party participated in the meeting.

The meeting issued several resolutions, including the condemnation in strong terms of the activities of the custodian committee led by Usman, urging it to respect the establishment of the party.

The resolution, which was read by the national secretary of the party, Alhaji Farouk Ibrahim, observed that article 14.4b gave the power to call meetings only to the national secretary with the approval of the national president.

“Nec in the session noted the various anti-playful activities of the governor Alex Otti, including the request for authorized meetings of the interested parties, resolving the powers of the NEC and leading elections of the local government under the platform of another political party.

“Nec-in-Session said he would not hesitate to go on to discipline him, in line with article 19 of the party’s constitution. Nec-in-session has solved his power as NWC to regulate the party leaders.

“Nec-in-Session, in the exercise of his intensity, warns the former presidential candidate of our large party, Obi, to stop participating in any activity capable of undermining the peace, unity and integrity of the party, since Nec will not hesitate to issue a steep penalty if found,” said Ibrahim.

The upset president, Abure, answered questions about what he would become of the party in the Anambra elections and the 2027 elections.

Abure said that the LP was a Welfarist party with the main objective of protecting the interests of the people, adding that the party would deploy candidates who would promoted the party agenda.

In the meantime, the NCC led by Usman has held a meeting of Counter Stakeholders two days after the ABure meeting.

At the meeting chaired by Otti, the content of the certified copy (CTC) of the Supreme Court sentence on the dispute on party leadership was read to the public.

Otti, speaking at the NEC meeting and expanded the top of the interested parties, announced that the court said Usman’s leadership.

“The Supreme Court said that the complaints (Usman and others) were right in their appeal and went beyond the politicians to respect the heats as established in the respective constitutions of the political party,” said Otti.

He also criticized abure for insisting to remain as national president LP, even when his mandate had expired and even party members do not want him anymore.

The parties concerned and therefore ratified a motion making Usman the interim president of LP.

The meeting also participated in OBI, came two days after a national phazional president, Abure, threatened to sanction odys and Obi for anti-play activities and the parallel meeting of the expected NEC.

These actions and contractions in the Labor Party are perceived by political observers as counterproductive to the possibilities of the party in the next general elections.

Speaking of the effect that the internal divisions of the party could have on their possibilities in the Anambra elections and the general elections of 2027, a political analyst, dr. Richard Ozumba said that the leadership crisis threatens his survival and his performance.

“This conflict will surely lead to a loss of attention to the key issues of the countryside and will not have a united front.

“Voters can consider the internal conflicts of the party as a sign of weakness, eroding trust and trust in their ability to guide the country or states.

“It could involve a decline in the support of voters for the party.

“The current crisis can influence the fortunes of the party in 2027 and beyond; if left unrelated, the internal divisions can lead to a loss of impetus and a reduction in the relevance in the political panorama.

“At present, the party must reinvent itself to remain politically relevant, only time will say it,” said Ozumba.

It is the opinion of the interested parties that the infinite crisis of the LP can weaken the nascent democracy of Nigeria.

They say that LP leadership should avoid bitterness, abandon selfish ambitions and resolve the outstanding questions pleasant before the general elections of 2027.
