The National Orientation Agency (NOA), has expressed its support for the efforts of the Federal Government through the Safe Corridor Operation (OSC) from the Nigerian Army in the deradicalization and reintegration of Boko Haram fighters who repent and reintegrate them into the community.
Director General of Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, who gave body support to initiatives on Sundays during a full visit by the OSC delegation in Abuja, said deradicalization and reintegration of communicating countries, especially peaceful ones related to Boko Haram, were in the best interests in the country in the country in the country, which is a peaceful.
Issa-Onilu, who promised further support for the OSC, said it was time for the Nigerians to re-frame their perception of the program and understand the importance of long-term peace and national security.
He emphasized that many participants in this program were not rebels that were ideologically abducted but people were kidnapped, manipulated, or forced during the years of rebellion in the northeast.

“If the community fails to accept them back, we are at risk of encouraging them towards radicalization. We warn the stigma and wrong information that remains the biggest threat to the success of the program.”
Issas praised the Nigerian armed forces and other security agencies for their sustainable sacrifice, mentioning their efforts to be less valued and often misunderstood, adding that the agency would utilize its national grassroots network to promote a better understanding of the OSC objectives.
OSC coordinator, Brig.-Gen. Yusuf Ali, who led the delegation, gave direction to the Noa about the gradual structure of the program, which included filtering, rehabilitation, and reintegration, and called for the support of agencies in re -forming public narratives around its goals and beneficiaries.
Ali explained that this program has been operating since 2016, in partnerships with UN institutions, state governments, traditional rulers, and religious leaders, and calling for storytelling and more accurate public education to eliminate myths and promote national healing.
“Rehabilitation is not about forgiving crime. This is about solving the cycle of violence,” Ali said.
