Nigeria secured the first mixed doubles victory in 2025 ITTF World Champs

Nigeria has marked an important milestone at the ITTF 2025 World Championship in Doha, Qatar, by winning its first victory at a double mixed event.

The dynamic duo of Omajide Omotayo and Rabiat Ayoola made a thrilling comeback to defeat Mahmoud Helmy and Fathy Hey 3-2 from Egypt in round 64.

The prestigious tournament, which began on Saturday, May 17, displayed more than 300 athletes from more than 70 associations of members who competed in five individual events: male singles, female singles, male doubles, female doubles, and mixed doubles.

The competition will last nine days in the lively city of Doha.

Although the beginning was shaky, losing the first two sets of 9-11 and 7-11, Omotayo and Ayoola showed extraordinary endurance.

They rose again to take the next three sets 11-6, 12-10, and 11-7, sealing the 3-2 victory which was fought with difficulty and advanced to the second round of the mixed doubles category.
