Legal counsel for the Governor of the State Edo, Mr. Andrew Ewanta, has denied the claim that the Monday Governor Okpebholo stopped his cabinet’s full constitution while waiting for the results of the Supreme Court’s decision in the Government Election on September 21, 2024.
Since the assumption of the position on November 12, 2024, the Governor of Okpebholo only appointed nine commissioners, a development that had attracted criticism from several political observers and the votes of opposition. However, Ewanta, speaking during the press briefing on Sunday, insisted that linking the delay with a court decision that was anticipated was equally misleading and inaccurate.
“If the governor is waiting for the Supreme Court’s decision, he will not point to the commissioner at all,” said Ewanta. “He, in reality, was the first governor in the history of the state of Edo who announced several members of his cabinet on his inauguration day.”
Legal advisors emphasize that administration has taken significant steps to ensure sustainability in government, shows that the head of the main institution and special advisor has been appointed. He also noted that the governor’s approach was intentional and inclusive.
“Some people have defected to the Congress of All Progressive (APC) from the Labor Party and the Democratic Party (PDP), and we must consider it in forming a balanced cabinet,” he added.
Ewanta also explained the challenges inherited by the Okpebholo government, noted that the new government intended to lay a strong foundation for its five -point development agenda. “The governor does not want to make a reason later. He wants people who are competent in a place that can give results from the first day,” he said.
In the controversy surrounding the PDP chief who was marked to demolish the alleged involvement in activities related to cult, Ewanta confirmed that the investigation was ongoing. “The police are still investigating this problem, and we allow the process to take a full road,” he said.
Responding to concerns about construction projects that were jammed throughout the state, Ewanta revealed that the previous government under Godwin Obaseki left the debt to shock more than the N600 billion road contract only. He accused the former government with a hurry of giving contracts in his last months, many of them are now being reviewed.
“In the evening of the government, the contract was distributed to political cronies without complete testing. These are some of the problems we face,” he explained.
Apart from the current challenges, Ewanta stated that the Okpebholo government remained committed to fulfilling its promise, emphasizing that the government operated in “full throttle.”
