In the famous cruel prison Evin – as Tehran said, the damage showed that Israel targeted by civilians | World News

This is one of the most famous and secret places in Iran.

Somewhere, foreign journalists were never allowed to visit or make films. The prison where the dissidents and criticism of the Iranian government disappeared – some were never seen again.

But we went there today, invited by Iranian authorities who wanted to show the damage carried out there by Israel.

Evin prison was beaten by Israeli air strike the day before a ceasefire ending the 12 -day war with Iran. Damage was far greater than what was thought at that time.

We walked through what was left from the gate, now most of the debris and bent metal, among a handful of foreign news media that were allowed to enter.

A few hundred meters, we were shown a building that Iran said was a prison hospital.

Behind the iron bar, each window of the building has been flown. Medical equipment and hospital beds have been torn and torn.

It feels scary somewhere that is usually closed to the outside world.

On the hill above us, it was not touched by air strikes, buildings where prisoners were jailed in a reported terrible condition, an unpleasant watch of the tower shining in the sky.

Evin felt dirty and ignored. There was something very sad and oppressed about the atmosphere when we wandered in the complex.

Iran has their reason to bring us here. The authorities said at least 71 people were killed in air strikes, some of them inmates, but also visited family members.

Iran says this is proof that Israel is not only targeting military or nuclear sites but also a civilian location.

But the press visit also highlighted the fame of prison.

Critics and groups of Iranian human rights say Evin is identical with brutal oppression of political prisoners and opponents, and the practice of hostage diplomacy as well.

British Dual Nationals, including Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, were held here for years before being released in 2022 with a concession in return from England.

Interviewed about Israeli air strikes at the time, MS Zaghari-Ratcliffe only showed empathy characteristics with ex-convicts. Trapped in their cells, he said they must be scared.

The Israelites have not fully explained why they placed Evin on their target list, but on the same day, the Israeli military said it “attacked the target of the regime and government repression body in the heart of Tehran”.
