FG begins the trial of Phase Seven of terrorists …

The National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC), which operates under the National Security Adviser (ONSA) office, began phase 7 of Kainji’s mass processes for suspicious terrorists.

In a declaration issued by the NCTC strategic communication office, it was disclosed that over 50 suspicions had already entered the test procedures, with the number that provided for in the next few days.

This phase follows the success of the pursuit of over 200 terrorist suspicions during phase 6 of the processes in December 2024, conducted at the Kainji detention structure in the state of the Niger.

Speaking at the formal start of the last round of tests, national coordinator of the NCTC, Mag.-Gen. Adamu Garba Laka, underlined the meaning of the procedure as a reflection of the unwavering commitment of Nigeria for justice and the legitimate fight against terrorism.

“These processes are a milestone of our national commitment to support the rule of law while they turn to terrorism and violent extremism,” said Laka.

He also observed that Nigeria has made significant progress in improving the ability of the criminal justice system to effectively pursue crimes related to terrorism. He stressed that this progress helped to respond to the concerns raised by the Task Force Action Financial (Fatf).

“The progress made through these processes have contributed significantly to the efforts of Nigeria to get out of the list of the gray Fatf,” he added.

Laka praised the professionalism of the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Federation, the judges of the Federal High Court and the contributions of investigators, legal teams and international partners involved in the process.

Representing the prosecutor General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (San), director of the judicial public, Mohammed Babadoko Abubakar, praised the collaborative efforts between Onsa and the main parties concerned.

He reaffirmed the dedication of the Federal Government to guarantee equivalent and transparent processes that provide justice to the victims while supporting the rights of the accused.

“The government is committed to conducting these procedures in line with the rule of law and respect for human rights,” said Abubakar.
