Ball President Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday will personally receive the body of a former President of Muhammadu Buhari in the state of Katsina, ahead of the last burial ritual scheduled to take place in his hometown, Daura.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made an announcement during a press conference in Abuja on Monday. He revealed that the body of the late President, which will be flown from London, is expected to arrive at 12 noon.
“The Ball President Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will personally receive the remnants of former president in Katsina,” Idris said. “Upon arrival in Katsina, a short military ceremony will be held at the airport before the corpse was transferred to Daura. Jana’iza (funeral prayer) will take place afterwards, followed by a funeral at the residence of the President of the President.”
He further confirmed that Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently in London, leading the upper -level federal delegation to complete logistics and diplomatic regulation for repatriation of the late leader.
As part of the national mourning period stated by President Tinubu, condolences have been opened in all Ministry of Federal, Departments and Institutions, as well as at the Nigerian Embassy and the High Commission abroad. Additional public registers will also be available at the Center for the International Conference of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja.
Idris noted that tribute continued to flow from all over the world.
“The condolences that come from the heads of state and governments throughout the world are evidence of the global status and inheritance of the President Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.

To ensure coordinated and dignified burial, President Tinubu has established an inter-statement committee chaired by the Federation Government Secretary (SGF), Senator George Akume. The Committee will work closely with the state government of Katsina and the Buhari family in all aspects of the burial of the state.
In addition, the Minister revealed that 25 members of the Federal Executive Council had been directed to travel to Katsina for a funeral ceremony and remained in the Daura for Fidau (the third day prayer) scheduled for Wednesday.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday at London Hospital after a short illness, served as Head of Nigerian State from 1983 to 1985 and as a civilian president of two periods from 2015 to 2023. His funeral on Tuesday will be carried out in accordance with Islamic rituals.
