Femi Adesina, a former special advisor to the media and publicity to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has defended the old Buhari’s decision to seek medical treatment in the UK, stating that only relying on the Nigerian health care system that could be charged for years before.
Buhari, who died at London Hospital at 16:30 on Sunday, July 13, had received medical treatment in England long before and in all of his presidency.
Speaking on television Channels on Tuesday, Adesina responded to criticism of the death of former president abroad, on the grounds that survival must come before reform.
“He always has his medical in London even when he is not in the office, so it’s not about when he is alone,” Adesina said.
“And then you have to live first to change certain things or improve in your country. If he says, ‘I will do my medical in Nigeria like showing off,’ he can die for a long time because there may be no expertise needed in this country.

“But he must live to be able to lead the country to the point where we will have expertise. So, those who talk about going abroad, they do not know that a man must live first before he can make changes.”
Buhari, who served as Nigerian Civil President from 2015 to 2023 and previously as the head of the country’s military from 1983 to 1985, faced consistent supervision of his frequent medical journey to Britain during his term of office.
His body left London on Tuesday morning to Daura, his hometown in the state of Katsina, where he was scheduled for the burial of the country.
