Inec confirmed SDP participation in the election

The Independent National Election Commission (Inec) said that on Friday the Social Democratic Party (SDP) would participate in the Saturday election in this country.

The Federal High Court, Abuja, had previously ordered the commission to include SDP and its candidates in the selection of interruptions scheduled for 12 states in the country.

The election will take place in two senators of the Edo and Anambra state senators, five federal constituents in Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun, and the state of Oyo, and nine state states in Adamawa, Anambra, Kaduna, Kano State, Kogi, Niger, Taraba, Zamara.

Commissioner and Chair of the National Inec, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Oluumekun, confirmed the development in a statement in Abuja.

He assured that the 11 hour assessment would not affect the election.

“The commission has been served with the decision of the Federal High Court, the Abuja Division, in the lawsuit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1525/2025. In the decision, the Commission was ordered to include the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its candidates in general elections in 12 state federations.

“The party had previously not submitted a valid notification for preliminary selection behavior for the BYE selection. For this reason, they were not monitored by the commission. However, according to the decision, the names of candidates submitted manually have been received and published on our website.

“The party will participate in the election of interruptions,” Oluumekun said.
