Why hasn’t PDP disciplined Wike – Deputy Legal Advisor

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified why the former Governor of the State of Rivers and the current Federal Capital Minister, Nyesom Wike, has not faced disciplinary steps despite allegations of anti-party activities.

According to the party, no members can be approved without a formal petition supported by trustworthy evidence.

Speaking in Abuja, PDP National Legal Advisor Deputy, Okechukwu Osuoha lawyer, explained that although the disciplinary committee had been formed, no cases were pursued because there was no petition that was officially submitted.

“At our NEC meeting, we formed a disciplinary committee led by Head of Tom Ikimi, an older statesman, with Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) as secretary. They were mandated to overcome violations or anti-party activities by any party members, no matter their position, and to bring the person to order.

“But to this day, no one has been demanded or approved. People often ask me specifically about the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike – Why don’t we discipline it, why do we not take action? I tell them that it is not enough to just say someone has committed a violation. Formal petitions must be handed over to the Disciplinary Committee,” Osuoo.

He further emphasized that every individual who submitted a petition must be willing to appear before the committee and provide supporting evidence.

“When the petition is written and presented, the applicant must also be prepared to come and testify. If the person accused of being invited, you must come with your evidence. It is not enough to make public accusations,” he added.

Osuoha also noted that difficulties in demanding disciplinary cases for conclusions are not unique to PDP but reflect systemic problems in the Nigerian government.

“This is the same problem as our wider Nigeria system. This is not just about showing anomalies; the challenge is to follow them to conclusions,” he said.
