PDP, Edo, a clash of the government on bad government charges, foreign trips

The EDO state chapter from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the state government was involved in the war of words that followed the accusation that the Monday Governor Okpebholo and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa, had ignored the government that supported foreign trips, while also planning to spend N4.2 billion for luxury vehicles for newly nominated commissioners.

In a statement issued on Thursday, PDP Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, accused the governor and his deputy “careless negligence of responsibility,” accused that the state of Edo had fallen into the void of leadership at the time of increasing feeling of insecurity and economic tension.

He claimed that the request for confirmation of 28 commissioners will produce the “executive council that is most swollen in Edo history,” added that the government has concluded the arrangement to buy 28 sports utility vehicles (SUVs) at the cost of each N150 million.

According to PDP, the expansion of the government has increasingly increased government costs, which he said had been burdened by “advisory forces, chairman of the council, and head of parastatal.” The party also accused the administration to delay the rights of workers, leave public projects, and failed to overcome the deterioration of deteriorating.

“Are Okpebholo and Idahosa not aware that farmers have left their agricultural land because of armed gangs, that the kidnappers terrorized the highway, and that traders were forced to close earlier than fear? Edo deserves leadership, not trash bins abroad,” said the party.

In response, the Head of the Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Diaa, described the accusation as “reckless, misleading, and desperate,” emphasizing that the deputy governor “is currently in the state of Edo, diligently issuing his responsibilities.” He rejected the PDP claim as “intentional falsity” and insisted that the state was not left without leadership.

“PDP must be reminded that the governance in Edo today is not carried out on propaganda or allegations but in the system, structure, and accountability,” he said in a statement titled ‘PDP Goofs again’.

He noted that Edo was one of the three top countries in Nigeria with the highest minimum wage of N75,000, contrary to claims about worker welfare. Regarding education, health, and infrastructure, it accused the previous government under the Governor Godwin Obaseki of failing to do meaningful recruitment or critical investment in eight years.

“If the school does not have teaching personnel and hospitals that are damaged, then the mistakes are based on the Obaseki government, not the current government. Edo people know where his mind came from,” he added.

Maintaining the size of the cabinet, the government says inclusiveness is misinterpreted as an advantage, insisting that its appointment reflects competence and representatives in all senator districts.

“The current government remains firm in providing democratic dividends, restoring Edo’s pride, and securing a prosperous future,” he said.
