Cisterna Nupeng’s drivers announce the date to start the strike for CNG Controversy trucks

The branch of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (Nupeng) oil drivers will begin an indefinite strike on Monday 8 September 2025, following unresolved disagreements for the planned deployment of 4,000 trucks for compressed natural gas (CNG).

The union said he was worried that the new system can move thousands of his members from their current roles in the oil and gas transport sector.

In a statement jointly signed by the president of Nupeng, partner Williams Akporeha, and the secretary general, companion Afolabi Olawale, the union observed that several meetings with the interested parties in the sector did not produce a resolution.

According to the declaration, the recent recruitment of drivers for the methane trucks in new conditions of commitment has increased the tensions.

Nupeng has expressed concern about the fact that these terms can exclude drivers from joining the unions existing in the oil and gas sector.

The Union described this policy as incompatible with employment rights and invited government agencies pertinent to intervene.

“With this declaration, we invite the Federal Government of Nigeria, its regulatory agencies and other parties interested in urgently waping in this matter,” read the declaration.

Nupeng also warned that if the problem was not addressed, the planned strike action would have influenced the lifting and distribution of oil products across the country.

The Union appealed to the Nigerians to understand and bear with any inconveniences that can arise during industrial action, insisting on the fact that its action is aimed at protecting the well -being and rights of its members.
