APC Chieftain writes ICC, urges the body to ignore the petition against the healthy UBA

A head of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yusuf Ali (Rabagardama), invited the International Criminal Court (ICC) to the Hague to ignore what described as an “so -called petition” presented by Senator Lawal Usman, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, against the governor of Kaduna State, Senator UBA Sani.

This was contained a letter dated 30 August 2025 and addressed to the “Prosecutor, International Criminal Court (ICC), to the Hague, the Netherlands”.

Ali said: “I write as a citizen in good faith of Nigeria, with the state of Kaduna as a place of origin, to formally attract the attention of the honorable short in a petition widely widespread presumably presented by Senator Lawal Usman, representing the Kaduna Senatorial District, against his excellence, the senator UBA Sani, the governor of Kaduna State.

“This so -called petition has not only received unusual advertisement through conventional and social media platforms in Nigeria, but was also deliberately sensationalized to defame the person of the governor Sani and to mislead the international community, in particular this honorable court”.

Ali observed that the petition, which claims that the Governor Sani has abused the state power to harass and arrest the leaders of the opposition during the recent goodbye elections, is “building without foundation, mischievous and unfounded”.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INC), which conducted the elections, and both local and international observers have declared that the process was peaceful, credible and that reflected the will of the people. The opposition parties sided candidates without intimidation, the voters freely exercised their franchise and no violence or accidents related to security were recorded everywhere in the state of Kaduna”, wrote the voters.

He also described the petition as a “calculated attempt to create false narratives capable of damaging the reputation of a democratically elected governor and by extension, undermining the credibility of the democratic institutions of Nigeria”.

Ali reminded the ECB that under the Statute of Rome, the jurisdiction of the Court covers only the genocide, the crimes against humanity, the war crimes and the crime of aggression.

“The accusations in the petition of Senator Usman do not fall within the jurisdiction of the ICC

The letter also stressed that the Governor Sani does not have “constitutional powers to distribute the safety agencies unilaterally for partisan purposes” and that “there is no credible evidence in support of this serious charge”.

Wings did not spare himself the signatory himself, affirming:

“It is important to note that the signatory, Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, is not without imperfections. Over time it has been started in accusations of corruption, questionable relationships and petitions in front of Nigerian antibody agencies.

He described the governor Sani as a “famous human rights activist, democratic and lawyer of social justice” who came into office “through a popular mandate following a free and fair election” and whose administration “was marked by policies of inclusion, equity, equity and development visible in all sectors of the state of Kaduna”.

“Far from the dictatorial being, his leadership has been advisable and widely praised, even by the sections of the opposition. His commitment to peace, justice and good government are in clear contrast with the harmful portrait in this petition”, stressed Ali.

Ali begged the ICC to completely reject the petition:

“In the light of the above, I respectfully undermine this honorable Court to ignore the petition of Senator Lawal Adamu Usman in its entirety. It is an selfish attempt to arm international judicial processes for an economic political profit.
