The Flying Eagles will come out of the shelter against Norway on Monday at the Tiscal de Talca Autodio for the first time ever in the history of the tournament. Two finalists in Saudi Arabia in 1989 and in the Netherlands in 2005, the West Africa giants will make their 14th Apparition in the competition that started as a U21 FIFA youth tournament in Tunisia in 1977.
On the other hand, their Scandinavian counterparts will only go to the field for the third time in the history of the championship. This will be the first ever meeting between these two parts at level U20. Flying eagles are much further on the Norwegians considering their pedigree in this tournament.
Nigeria has sealed their qualification for Chile after finishing third, with bronze medals, during the final of the Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Egypt. Supported by the 1-1 draw against Chile host and 3-1 against Australia in friendlies preparatory for the tournament, the flying eagles are full of trust in view of Monday’s meeting with Norway. The team consists of a mixture of kids and home players.
Fortunately, the team led by Aliyu Zubair will be banking on the experience of the team’s captain, Daniel Bameyi and midfielder Daniel Daga who were part of the immediate past team that reached the phase of the quarterfinals in Argentina in 2023.
The seven times African champions will aim for victory as they want to kick off their campaign with a victory at the Tiscal de Talca Actio on Monday, starting from 17:00 at Chile (21:00 in Nigeria).

Press release of the meeting of the NFF executive committee held at the Bon Hotel & Suites, Ibadan on Saturday 27 September 2025
The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation held a meeting at the Bon Hotel & Suites, Ibadan on Saturday 27 September 2025 to deliberate on important issues in Nigeria’s football and resolved as follows:
1) The Executive Committee expressed its utmost appreciation for its excellence, the Governor Olusgeyi inhabitun Makinde and the good people of the State of Oyo for the warm welcome to the delegates at 81st Annual General Assembly of the Nigeria Football Federation, as well as for the players and officials of the U20 national team team, Falconets, in view of their qualifying match of the U20 Women’s World Cup of 2026 against the U20 national team of the Rwanda in Ibadan Saturdayth September 2025.
2) Following a presentation of NFF independent auditors, PricewaterhouseCoopers, the Executive Committee approved the consolidated and revised budget and the declaration of profit and loss of the Federation, for the exercise closed at 31 yearsst December 2024.
3) In the same way, the Executive Committee approved the financial statements, as well as the proposed budget of the Federation for the financial year of 2025, as presented.
4) The Executive Committee approved the process that was started for the appointment of an independent auditor for the Federation, following the completion of the PricewaterHousecopers mandate, praising the latter for his diligence and meritorious service to the Federation over the years.
5) With a few weeks at the FIFA World Cup of 2026 very crucial that qualifies between Nigeria, Lesoteho and Nigeria and Repubblica Beninia in October 2025, the executive committee praised the efforts of the president of the NFF and the management of the NFF which produced fruits in Southfta. The Committee also praised the President and the NFF Management for the holistic proactive measures that were put in place around the two games in the interest of the players. He also charged the NFF secretariat to guarantee seamless agreements for logistics, accommodation, travel, training and general preparation of general matches for the two games.
6) Just 48 hours away from the U20 Men’s National Team, flying with the date of Eagles with Norway in their first game of the FIFA U20 World Cup finals of 2025 who take place in Chile, the executive committee noted that the team spent weeks in Abuja and 12 days in Chile, preparing for the championship, while preparing for third place.
7) The Committee has expressed great hopes that the U17 women’s national team, Flamingos, will perform a Credit way to the finals of the FIFA U17 women’s Cup this year in Morocco, the first to welcome 24 teams and the first of the five consecutive editions hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco. 8) While recognizing the support provided by the NFF and the government of the State of Oyo in the preparation of the Falconets for their match of the second round of the FIFA U20 Women’s Cup of 2026 against Rwanda, the executive committee has accused the girls of doing everything and making the people of Ibadan and Nigeriani in general, happy with an impressive victory against the Rwandan counterparts.
9) The Executive Committee Noted the Qualification of the U17 Boys, Golden Eaglets, for the Semi-Finals of the ongoing Wafu-B U17 Championship in Yamoussoukro, Cote d’Ivoire and Expressed Belief in the Technical Crew Led by Manu Garba to Lead the Boys to Glory at the Tournament, and and Also Lead Them to Excel at Next Year’s U17 Afcon Finals in Morocco, where Africa’s Representatives at the finals of the U17 FIFA World Cup will emerge.
