NSC supports Ofili and asks to return to the Nigerian team

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to Nigerian sprint sensation Favor Ofili, following World Athletics’ decision to deny his allegiance transfer request.

Responding to questions from the press, the Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, emphasized that Nigeria continues to fully support Ofili and looks forward to welcoming him back into the Nigerian national team.

“She is our daughter. We love her very much and I have always said that we must talk to her so that she can return home. I urge Ofili and those close to her that her home is waiting for her.”

“Do not be discouraged or angry. Please know that we love you and still want you to come back. We promise you all the support you need to shine at the Olympic Games in two years’ time,” said the Hon. Olopade added.

The NSC recognizes the complexities that athletes face when making career decisions and reiterates its commitment to fostering an enabling and enabling environment where talents like Ofili can excel at the highest level.

The Commission further underscored the importance of sustained collaboration with sports federations and key stakeholders to ensure that Nigerian athletes receive the necessary resources, welfare and institutional support to succeed on the global stage.
