Ethan Nwaneri joins Borussia Dortmund on loan after chill at Arsenal

Nigerian-born Arsenal winger Ethan Nwaneri has moved on loan to Germany’s Borussia Dortmund, with the chance of getting regular playing time in the German Bundesliga as he is once again surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium.

Sports247 gathered that just like last season when Arsenal loaned him to France’s Olympique Marseille due to his inability to get a regular place in their team, Nwaneri had to leave the English Premier League champions on transfer deadline day.

Nwaneri had an early indication that he would move to Germany in the extended transfer window for loan deals, but Dortmund were quick to sign the youngster after making an offer in August to sign him this summer.

Nwaneri, 19, will now be keen to excel at his new scale as it is another upward step for the promising winger, who had an impressive season in 2024-25, with nine goals and two assists in 37 games.

A BBC Sport report adds: “The winger remains the youngest player in Premier League history, having made his debut aged just 15 years and 181 days against Brentford in 2022.

“However, with first-team opportunities limited, Nwaneri was loaned out to Marseille for the second half of last season. He did not perform as many expected and Arsenal were once again willing to let him leave before the end of the transfer window.

“(However, despite the youngster’s shutout at the Emirates Stadium), it is understood that Mikel Arteta’s side are not considering letting Nwaneri leave permanently, despite reports suggesting otherwise earlier in the summer.”
