Chelsea striker Joao Pedro has been named Premier League Player of the Month for August 2026 after making an impressive start to the 2026/27 season.

The Brazilian beat Chelsea teammate Cole Palmer and six other shortlisted players in the public vote to claim his first Premier League Player of the Month award.

Pedro has played a key role in Chelsea’s perfect start to the new Premier League season, recording four goals in the club’s first two matches against Fulham and Brighton.

Pedro made an immediate impact in Chelsea’s opening league match away to Fulham, finding the net just 33 seconds into the match to open his Premier League account for the season.

The striker then turned provider, assisting Palmer for the winning goal as Chelsea started their season with a win at Craven Cottage.

Pedro continued his impressive form in Chelsea’s second Premier League match against Brighton at Stamford Bridge.

He scored again before setting up Palmer for another goal, helping the Blues secure another win and maintain their strong start to the season.

His contributions in both matches made him one of the Premier League’s standout performers in August and strengthened his claim to the monthly individual honour.

Pedro puts an end to Chelsea’s wait

Pedro’s result ends Chelsea’s almost two-year wait for a Premier League winner of the month.

The Brazilian becomes the first Chelsea player to win the award since Palmer won his second monthly prize in September 2024.

Palmer had also been nominated for the latest award following his strong performances, but ultimately finished behind his Chelsea teammate in the public vote.

The England international previously won the award in April 2024 before securing his second win in September of the same year.

Pedro’s win also gives Chelsea another individual Premier League honor at the start of a new season, with the striker emerging as one of the club’s key attacking players.

The good start underlines the importance of Pedro

Since the start of the season, Pedro has demonstrated his ability to influence matches as both a scorer and creator.

His combination of finishing and playmaking was evident in Chelsea’s first two league games, where he directly contributed to four goals.

His early partnership with Palmer also provided Chelsea with an effective attacking combination, with Pedro assisting the England international in both opening matches.

The Blues will now hope Pedro can maintain his early season form as the season progresses and the club faces a challenging Premier League schedule.

With his first Player of the Month award now secured, Pedro will look to continue producing goals and assists as he helps Chelsea compete for success during the 2026/27 season.
