Former Nigeria international winger Tijanni Babangida has praised Moses Simon’s longevity in the Nigeria senior team as he approaches his 100th appearance for the team, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
The Paris FC winger currently has 99 international caps and if he plays in either of the two upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau respectively, he will join a select group of players who have played 100 games for the team.
Only the quartet of goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, Ahmed Musa, Joseph Yobo and recently Alex Iwobi have reached the milestone of 100 caps for Nigeria, Simon is in line to be the fifth player.
“He (Simon) is a legend and a role model. When you consider the coaches who have come and gone, but he stays, it tells you a lot. Playing 100 games for Nigeria is no small feat and you can ask any former international,” Babangida said.
“Simon didn’t reach this milestone by simply sitting on the bench. He did it by actively playing and impacting games. Look at his goals and assists in the best games and tournaments and you will understand why I said he is much more than a legend.”
