“Eguavoen has the experience to deliver”: Osahon supports the Super Falcons’ bet before the Olympic qualifiers

FC Robo Queens owner Emmanuel Osahon has backed the Nigerian Football Federation’s decision to hand over temporary control of the club to Augustine Eguavoen. super falconsdescribing the appointment as an important decision that could bear fruit in Nigeria’s bid for a place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Eguavoen, who also serves as NFF Technical Director, was named interim head coach last month and will take charge of the women’s national team for the first time in his coaching career. He will be assisted by Nasarawa Amazons coach Christopher Danjuma, former Super Falcons defender Ayisat Yusuf and goalkeeping coach Olatunji Baruwa.

For Osahon, Eguavoen’s extensive experience within Nigerian football makes him a credible option at an important time for the Falcons.

“It’s an important decision,” Osahon said, expressing confidence that the former Super Eagles coach has the experience and familiarity with Nigerian football to handle the task.

Eguavoen previously coached the Super Eagles on several occasions and guided Nigeria to a bronze medal at the 2006 African Cup of Nations. Her latest assignment, however, presents a very different challenge as she attempts to guide the country through a demanding women’s Olympic qualification path.

His first team suggests he is now prepared to combine established stars with emerging talent.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie, Asisat Oshoala, Michelle Alozie, Jennifer Echegini and Uchenna Kanu are among the 28 invited players, while Ashleigh Plumptre returns after missing WAFCON 2026 due to injury. Young people like Favor Nkwocha, Shakirat Moshood, Janet Akekoromowei and Oluwakemi Adegbuyi have also been included.

Osahon, however, believes that experience alone will not be enough.

The FC Robo Queens boss has emphasized that the NFF must provide Eguavoen and his technical team with the necessary support, particularly with qualification decided through knockouts where there is little room to recover from mistakes.

Nigeria will begin against the Comoros on October 9, with the second leg scheduled for October 13. It is significant that both matches will be played at the Remo Stars stadium in Ikenne, because Comoros does not have a CAF-approved venue for international matches.

The Super Falcons advanced to the second round as one of the top three ranked nations in the competition, while Comoros reached this stage following an extraordinary 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan.

The wider path is considerably more difficult. Nigeria must negotiate four rounds of two-legged knockout football to earn one of only two African tickets to Los Angeles 2028. Victory over Comoros would set up a third-round meeting with Morocco or the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

That is why Osahon considers the coach’s decision especially important.

Eguavoen has been trusted to begin another Super Falcons journey to the Olympics, and Osahon believes he has the experience to deliver, provided the NFF gives him the tools and support to get the job done.
