A 29-year-old man was arrested for pretending to kidnapped on Ondo

The police operation at Ondo State has arrested a 29 -year -old man, Bello Azeez, for allegedly abducting to squeeze money from his parents and acquaintances.

Spokesman for the State Police Command, Sports Ayanlade, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday at Akure,

Ayanlade said the investigation revealed that the previous suspect had asked for the number of N500,000 from his father to pay debts.

He said: “When his request was rejected, he compiled an idea to falsify his abduction as a means to get money.

“To perfect his plan, on August 11, 2025, he with one of them claimed to travel to Ibadan, after that he began to make a call to his parents and friends, accusing that he had been kidnapped.

“In an effort to secure his release, his parents, along with his friends, mobilized resources and creating a gofundme account, through which they managed to collect the number of N500,000.

“The suspect then instructed that the N500,000, which should have been prosecuted by his kidnappers and who had been raised through the contribution of families and gofundme accounts, were transferred directly to his personal bank account

“A direction filled with relatives and colleagues who are not suspicious who believe that he is really depressed.

“However, suspicion begins to increase when it becomes unusual that the victim who should be kidnapping will ask that the ransom be paid directly to his bank account.

“This encourages his family to remind the police.

“After receiving the report, the order operation immediately tracked the telephone number used by the suspect.

“The police found that he (the suspect) had been in Owo throughout the alleged kidnapping.

“He, after that, was arrested and recognized for the crime. He will be charged in court after completing the investigation.

“This case once again underlines the dangers of greed, fraud, and the lure of fast wealth, which often encourages individuals into actions that can damage their future.”
